The special Progressive sectional has two-stage competition. The first stage is a round of qualification games at individual clubs. The qualified players are able to proceed to the second stage, the final game, which is held at a single tournament location.

Implementation of this series of Sectionally Rated games was the idea of then District Representative Lou Wiegman after a discussion with a friend at a tournament. This type of game has been largely replaced by STaC games run by others but has endured at Unit 351, Mesa.

Silver Master points are awarded at all club games. Statification definition is set by the unit for the qualifying games and also used in the Final Session.
